Norske Love

A three masted warship launched in about 1643. The Norske Love was originally named after the Norwegian/Danish coat-of-arms, and was renamed the Oresund in 1772. The vessel was used as a guard boat in Oresund and other coastal waters around Denmark. She was deleted from the naval register in 1798.

A three masted royal ship launched in 1627. On her maiden voyage in 1628, the Wasa sank in Stockholm harbour. Using a primitive diving bell, 53 of the ships 64 cannons were recovered in 1664. The ship itself was lifted from the sea on 24th April 1961 and the Wasa Museum was opened the following year.

Cutty Sark

The most famous of all the tea clippers the Cutty Sark, launched in 1869, is today preserved for posterity at a dry dock in Greenwich. Built to transport tea from China, she was designed by Hercules Linton, whose ambition it was to outstrip the Thermopylae, the fastest ship of the times.
